Formally, ’On The Up & Up' is a meditation,
distilling the notion of shelter down to a
simple childhood sheet fort. Suspended by
balloons that will eventually wilt (slow),
pop (fast), or otherwise fail, the installa-
tion's tenuous existence mirrors the current
housing crisis and questions our faith in the
political and economic systems that we rely
on to secure this basic need. Whose stars
have we hitched our wagons to, and is our
faith in these institutions well placed?
Drawing on the soft nostalgia of vintage
bedsheets, and the intimate scale and
transformative magic of the sheet fort,
’On The Up & Up' suggests that we enact
a simplification of our notion of shelter,
refining the essence of "home" until it
becomes accessible.
Fundamentally, 'On The Up & Up' begs a
reassessment and re-balancing, a return.
‘On The Up & Up’ is the 2nd manifestation
of a developing body of work concerning
housing rights and alternative housing
models.

Installation:
bedsheets, latex balloons, helium,
string, flashlights, handmade pillows,
folding chairs

*Please Note: This installation is clearly a baby of the '(He) Is Risen' project completed earlier in 2010 for the EpiscoDisco and would not have been possible without the initial opportunity and support provided by the unstoppable Rev. Bertie P, Eve Ekman, Jean Cooney, and Iris Garcia.
