>>FFWD/RWD<<
Installation by Adam Wier
Grey Area Gallery
San Francisco, CA - February 2007

'FastForward/Rewind' is an exploration of material legacies - from gilded classics to present-day plastics, with the ocean as the repository for an international stone soup of discarded consumer goods. It is also a reflection on material survivors, those items that persist, poking into the present from the past. How do these items make it from the past to the present? Some are well cared for and preserved across generations, others are mass produced and survive by sheer numbers, and others are simply designed to last forever.

'FWWD/RWD' also plays with the deceptive practice of faux patina/distress to impart age, and therefore value or status, to an otherwise new object- the ornately carved and seawater-rusted folding chairs flowing between the world of the traditional oil painting backdrop and the plastic detritus in the foreground.

Installation:
rope, play sand, inkjet print,
